Introduction

  • The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method that helps you stay focused and productive.
  • Developed in the 1980s by Francesco Cirillo, an Italian entrepreneur and university student.
  • The name “Pomodoro” comes from the tomato-shaped kitchen timer Cirillo used to track his work sessions.
  • The basic idea is to break down your work into 25-minute intervals, called “Pomodoros,” separated by short breaks.
  • This rhythm of focused work and periodic rest helps you maintain energy and avoid mental burnout.

Practical Ways to Use the Pomodoro Technique

  1. Choose a specific task or project you want to work on.
  2. Set a timer for 25 minutes and commit to working solely on that task without any distractions.
  3. When the timer goes off, take a 5-minute break. Use this time to stretch, grab a snack, or clear your mind.
  4. Repeat the 25-minute work session and 5-minute break cycle.
  5. Every 4 Pomodoros (completed work sessions), take a longer 15–20 minute break.
